Sony Xperia 2 renders & video leaked shows triple camera setup

The Sony Xperia 1 was announced earlier this year, but it hasn’t launched yet. Before the Xperia 1 is even available for purchase we’re already seeing leaks of its successor, the Sony Xperia 2. @OnLeaks has shared CAD renders and a 360-degree video of this upcoming phone.

Popular leakster @OnLeaks in collaboration with Cash Karo has leaked the renders and the video of the Sony Xperia 2. As per the renders, the device will come with much thinner bezels at the top and bottom edges. The top bezel houses the selfie camera and speaker in the front. The rear of the phone features a triple camera setup aligned vertically which are located at the top left corner instead of the center.

You can’t tell from just looking at the renders, but although the Xperia 2 keeps the same 21:9 aspect ratio of the Xperia 1, it’s not the same size. In fact, the renders suggest the Xperia 2 will be smaller than the Xperia 1, with a screen size of just 6.1-inches as compared to the Xperia 1’s 6.5-inch display.

The phone will feature a 6.1-inch 4K OLED display with a tall 21:9 aspect ratio just like the Xperia 1. The dimensions are 158 x 68.3 x 8.3mm, which while longer is narrower than the Samsung Galaxy S10e, so we can finally expect another compact flagship from Sony. Inside the phone will have the Snapdragon 855 processor with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage.

The back will come with a triple camera setup which is in the top left. The fingerprint sensor will be on the side just like previous Sony phones.

The battery is expected to come in at 3,000mAh with 18W fast charging support. It’s nice to see that Sony is still going to be doing compact flagships going forward. We’ll be keeping a close eye on this one and keep you updated.

Regarding the Xperia 2’s release date, Sony has a habit of announcing flagship devices at the annual IFA event in Berlin. If this happens, it’ll presumably precede a launch in early to mid-October, just like last year’s Xperia XZ3. It’s unclear at this point how Sony will choose to price the Xperia 2, but the Xperia 1 will retail for $999 in the US, so the company’s next-gen flagship may also retail at that price.
