5 Reasons to Wait for the Pixel 4 & 5 Reasons Not to

This guide goes over everything we know so far about the Pixel 4, and why it’s worth waiting for. There are several great Android phones available now like the Pixel 3 XL or Galaxy S10, and more are coming soon. That said, here are a few reasons you might want to wait for the Pixel 4 or the bigger Pixel 4 XL.

With the Galaxy S10 here, users are looking ahead to what’s coming next. That includes Apple’s iPhone 11 now that we’re starting to hear rumors, the Pixel 3 Lite is coming, and then the inevitable Pixel 4 lineup.

Google will have a lot of competition in 2019. Other phones have tiny bezels or no bezels at all, triple rear cameras, and fancy features like reverse wireless charging. Basically, Google will need to make some big changes and create something special if they want to keep up, and we think they will.

Google Pixel 4 Rumors

As you probably know, Google is already working on a brand new Pixel phone for later this year. Two for sure, and potentially even three, which will run Android Q and likely debut Google’s new gaming service. Now, we know these phones are codenamed “Coral” for the Pixel 4, “Needlefish” for an unknown device, and apparently “Flame” for the Pixel 4 XL.

This is significant for two reasons. One, we’ve already seen leaks for the Coral confirming Galaxy S10-type specs and 6GB of RAM. And two, every Nexus or Pixel ever released by Google had a fish-related codename. These two do as well, but there’s a third model called “Flame” which is a complete 180 on current naming. Is this the famed Pixel Ultra?

Now that we know the internal codenames of Google’s new phones, expect more leaks to emerge very soon. And while these phones are probably still 6 months away from a release, we’re already starting to hear whispersrumors, hints from Google employees. A recent Google patent unveiled a Pixel-like device with absolutely no bezels yet saved room for dual front-facing speakers. It could be the Pixel 4 XL, and if so, I want one. This leak backs up that idea.

Obviously, it’s still far too early to speculate and the Pixel 4 is in active development which means things can and will change over the coming months. However, these patent images suggest the design is finished. Drawings for a patent are rarely this detailed, and this is obviously a Pixel, lending credence to recent rumors. It’s really exciting, actually.

The back won’t look like our images above, as Google will likely offer dual rear cameras and redesign the overall style a bit. Either way, they’re hard at work on two new phones and building toward the release of Android Q. We’re also expecting Google to debut a new smartwatch, Pixel Buds 2 and a new Google Home, to name a few.

Either way, early rumors point to some big changes, more than one camera on the back to compete with Samsung and Apple, and an edge-to-edge display that can rival the best of the best. Not to mention previous years give us a pretty good idea of what to expect, the Pixel 4’s release date, and a few more things.

There are some tempting phones available right now, but you might want to wait for the Pixel 4. If Google delivers a phone similar to some of these new leaks, the Pixel 4 could be our new recommendation as the phone to buy. For now, our slideshow below will take you through the best reasons to wait for Google’s Pixel 4 and share the latest news. We’ll also suggest a few reasons you might not want to wait for it.
