Install Android 9.0 on UMiDIGI A3 Pro (LineageOS 16) – How to Guide!

UMiDIGI A3 Pro launched in September 2018. The phone came out of the box with Android 8.1 Oreo. Finally, here is the big update. Now you can download and install Lineage OS 16 on UMiDIGI A3 Pro. This ROM is built from Lineage OS 16 GSI which is specially for the Treble supported device. If you want to try, then take a complete backup of data on your device or create a Nandroid backup using TWRP Recovery.

To install Lineage OS 16 on UMiDIGI A3 Pro , your device should have Bootloader Unlocked and should be running on latest TWRP Recovery or you can flash via ADB Sideload method. If you have all this, then you are good to try the new Lineage OS 16 GSI on your device. Follow our guide on how to upgrade, but before that. Let’s understand the features of Android 9.0 Pie and Lineage OS 16.

What’s on Android 9.0 Pie?

As we said, Lineage OS 16 is based on the latest OS, Android 9.0 Pie. Android 9.0 Pie is the 9th iteration and a major update of Google’s Android OS. The new Android Pie brings a couple of design changes to the successor Android Oreo but the most notable one is the gesture-based navigation system. Other features of Android 9 Pie are New Quick Settings UI design, Redesigned volume slider, Advanced Battery with AI Support, Notch Support, Improved Adaptive Brightness, Manual theme selection, Android Dashboard which Google calls Digital Wellbeing, and more other features.

Lineage OS 16 Based on Android 9.0 Pie?

Lineage OS 16 is the latest Stock Custom Firmware based on the official Android 9.0 Pie AOSP source code. Along with the official Android 9.0 features, the Lineage OS 16 also brings tons of features and customization option which allows using your phone beyond the Stock Firmware feature. Lineage OS one of the well-known aftermarket firmware built by the team behind cyanogen. In the Android world, Lineage OS is the currently best custom ROM built with many new features.

Important Notes!

This ROM will only work on this device, Don’t try this on any other device.
Follow the steps correctly otherwise you may brick your device. We are not responsible for any damage to your phone.
It will erase all your data, so we advise you first to take a complete backup of your phone and then proceed.
Ensure that your phone has at least 50-60% charged to prevent the accidental shutdown in-between the process.

Instructions to Install

1. First Download & Install a Custom Recovery on your device (TWRP is recommended), If you already have installed then skip this step.


2. Download ROMGapps .zip file and save it on your device’s Internal storage or SD Card.


3. Now Boot your device into TWRP Recovery Mode. (if you don’t know how to boot your device into twrp recovery then you can search it on Google)


4. Now in TWRP create a Nandroid Backup of your device for safer side. If anything goes wrong, you can restore back to your older ROM. (How to Take Nandroid Backup)


5. Now do a Factory Reset of your device, Goto WipeAdvanced WipeSelect CacheDalvik CacheSystem, and Data. Then Swipe to Wipe.


6. Now go back to TWRP Main Menu by pressing the Center navigation button.


7. Now Select Install, Locate the ROM zip file and Swipe to Confirm Flash.


8. After the flashing completes, Flash the Gapps in the manner.


9. After Gapps flashing completes, Select Wipe cache/dalvik from the bottom left side of the screen, & Swipe to Wipe.


10. After wipe completes, Click on Reboot System.


That’s it Now you have successfully installed the latest Android on your device, the first boot will take some time so please don’t panic!
